hanging on

One of the butterfly emerged the other morning, so naturally, I took a bunch of photos. Since it’s wings were wet, it wasn’t able to fly away. It seemed a bit annoyed at my camera and tried to hide behind the host plant, giving me this composition with the appearance it was hanging on for dear life.

This photo is the merger of two identical photos with vastly different exposures. I thought the combined photo was pretty cool, I hope you enjoy.

Here’s one before it got annoyed by my camera.

A profile. Their wings double in size as they dry and these are almost ready for flight.

HDR and macros are news to me – but it seemed to work out very well indeed.

I have never really tried macro, but respect the patience of those who persevere with it. No. 3 would be my choice as it gives me the best perspective to appreciate the insect – are butterflies insects?
