Still Life

Alex needed a photo of himself at archery for his phys ed class, so I hooked him up.    He didn’t hit the bulls-eye on this shot, but he often does. Canon EOS 7D (24mm, f/5, 1/50 sec, ISO800)

Why does the headlight on this sidecar look so funky?  I have no idea, but it looks like a BIG eye. One of many fine rigs I saw at Oley. Canon EOS 7D (24mm, f/7.1, 1/100 sec, ISO100)

Who wouldn’t love a bike with the name Flying Merkel?  This one’s a beauty I saw while walking around Oley. Canon EOS 7D (24mm, f/8, 1/125 sec, ISO100)

Early one evening, I was washing the cars and the color of the light reflecting off the bubbles on the roof caught my eye, but in the end, monochrome won.   Canon EOS 7D (93mm, f/4, 1/125 sec, ISO100)

I wish I could ride a motorcycle, that engine looks really cool. This was taken at Oley this past Friday. It’s a swap meet for antique motorcycles.  The dog never left the cart; I saw him riding all over the fairgrounds. Canon EOS 7D (73mm, f/5.6, 1/250 sec, ISO100)

Yesterday, I asked you to guess the photo.  The photo I posted yesterday is a crop of this photo, which is a macro selfie of my eye.  I took my inspiration from Susan (who does great and creative selfies), I just put my warped twist on it.  Yes, it was late in the day, eyes bloodshot [...]

Remember Norvin?  Well, this is the real Vincent deal.  This is being restored by a friend of mine who rides it regularly. Canon EOS 7D (24mm, f/4, 1/125 sec, ISO100)

Any idea what this is? It looks like a bird house on drugs. Actually, it’s a butterfly house. I built this in preparation for our Summer visitors (my wife and I raise swallowtail butterfly’s). The idea is that the butterfly’s can climb through the slots and ‘hang out’ inside without predators being able to get [...]

This is the engine from a Norvin, a Norton motorcycle frame with a Vincent engine. Both hail from England, so it’s only natural that someone would pair them. I’m offering this shot for Weekend Reflections #186 and The Weekend in Black and White, 19-April-2013. Some other photos of the complete bike are shown below. Canon [...]

We attended a preseason Phillies game recently; there was a young lady sitting a few rows down who was quite relaxed while enjoying the game. Canon EOS 7D (187mm, f/4, 1/200 sec, ISO100)

I left several planters outside over the Winter, I captured this one with snow flakes falling in the background.  A contribution to The Weekend in Black and White 5-April-2013   Canon EOS 7D (93mm, f/5, 1/200 sec, ISO400)

A couple of the artists I captured at the string concert at my son’s school from a few weeks back. Canon EOS 7D (70mm, f/4, 1/200 sec, ISO2000)   Canon EOS 7D (200mm, f/4, 1/200 sec, ISO2000)

My 25th wedding anniversary was this past Tuesday and my wife and I took the day off.  We didn’t make outdoor plans because the weather was iffy.  That morning, she asked what we were going to do.  I suggested the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Michener Art Museum, or we could go shopping.  She suggested [...]

My wife always places pinwheels in the landscaping. Last years batch never got removed, I captured this one cold, snowy morning. Cold and lonely. A contribution to Weekend Reflections #183 and The Weekend in Black and White 29-March-13.  Woo hoo, almost April, maybe Spring will show it’s face. Canon EOS 7D (89mm, f/4, 1/200 sec, ISO100)

I decided some time ago that I was going to get a second tattoo and I wanted something that was a tribute to my wife and our marriage (married 25 years today!). I had an idea but realized it would not look good in ink, so I let a real artist, Angel, help me out. [...]

My son’s school had a really fun event the other evening. They have an informal concert where an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school orchestra each play a few songs from their portfolio, then they all play a song together.  I’m pretty sure it was at this event that I picked up [...]

There’s a mirror at the bottom of our staircase that has a metal frame. I though it looked cool lighted by an LED candle and converted to monochome. My contribution to Weekend Reflections # 181 and The Weekend in Black and White 15-March-2013.  I’m running a fever of 101, so I might not get to [...]

This is another cool LED lantern my wife uses to decorate the house.  The batteries last a long time and they never get hot!  A contribution to Macro Monday. Canon EOS 7D (50mm, f/4, 5 sec, ISO100)

Someone broke a window from an abandoned dry cleaners, so I poked my camera inside and took a shot. I hope there wasn’t a rush on some of those garments. A contribution to The Weekend in Black and White, 8-Mar-2013. Canon EOS 7D (24mm, f/11, 1/20 sec, ISO2000)

This photo was really difficult to take … not.  It was quite accidental.  I was setting up for face and took a photo with a short shutter time, so the only thing that was exposed was the LED candle.  Regardless, I thought it looked cool. Canon EOS 7D (50mm, f/3.5, 1/30 sec, ISO100)

OK, normally, I don’t go stir crazy in the Winter, but this year has been unusually cold and damp and I just haven’t gotten outside much. Any clue what this is? The answer is revealed below. Canon EOS 7D (100mm, f/8, 2.5 sec, ISO100)     The metal spots are magnets and there’s a white LED inside.  Basically, this [...]

My wife bought this some time ago, I finally got around to capturing it in the right light. It’s a sculpture of a face and a hand. The hand holds a candle (LED) to illuminate the face. It sits on a shelf at the bottom of our stairs, so it can look pretty spooky at [...]

… from Peace Valley Park.  I got pretty much nothin’ in my photo backlog, it may be time to dig into the archives. Canon EOS 7D (105mm, f/8, 1/30 sec, ISO400)

An interesting pattern created in the Neshaminy Creek.  I’m guessing someone threw a rock in the semi-frozen surface.   Canon EOS 7D (75mm, f/8, 1/125 sec, ISO100)
