While roaming around Bucks County on my motorcycle one very warm Sunday afternoon, I came across a closed bridge, so I took the opportunity to park and explore the bridge, which was in pretty bad shape. My contribution to Sunday Bridges XCVI.
Here’s a plaque from the bridge. In other local, they have preserved this block and built it into the new bridge. I hope they do the same with this one, assuming they rebuild the bridge.
A shot from the stream bank
Then they tear these old beauties down and put up something hideous in their place.
nice. looks incredibly solid.
Love that curve and love it in black and white!
Perfect subject for these B&W shots!
Oh, my goodness….it would be a heart breaker if this beautiful structure were ever to be destroyed. Hopefully it will be restored and that the marker will be placed in the new structure if one if built. Am so glad you included that piece of history. genie
The block is in good shape – it would be nice to have it included if the bridge is ever rebuilt.
They had a real sense for making proper signs in 1907. I can feel the history here.
Now I wish I had looked for the plaque on my bridge shot.
Yes it is a counterweight and we had to drive under it. I will admit it is a bit intimidating. Since it is a double bascule we had to drive under two of them.
This post is awesome. W. Cadwallader – what a great name.
