what a rush

I shot this Friday, 11-March from the Rock Raven Bridge. We has (minor) flooding rains the night before.  The speed of the water rushing by was completely disorienting.  If you looked at the water, you became dizzy, it was very weird.

A different vantage, color version of the same support.  Note the drop in the water level.

    Love that top image!

  2. Renee says:

I actually do feel dizzy when focusing on the top image. I should lay off the boxed merlot…

  3. What an incredible water rush to have been photographed on the very same day the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan. Though the second shot puts things into perspective, I much prefer the vortex in the first one.

When I took these, I had heard about the earthquake and tsunami and the rushing water reminded me of how trivial our problems are compared to what those poor people are still enduring.

  4. Love the top image also! Beautifully captured patterns in the water

  5. Rejen says:

    Wonderful water picture…;-D

  6. Mama Zen says:

    Wow! That is dizzying!

    • Woody says:

My wife experiences vertigo from time to time. She would not have looked at this without getting sick. It was really disorienting. It didn’t help that the bridge was moving ever so slightly.

  7. Flowing water certainly knows how to create interesting dramas! The first photo is almost intimidating! Great shots!

  8. rebecca says:

The first photo still looks disorienting.

  9. Karen says:

A fantastic photo…but it makes me dizzy.

  10. fantastic…so much power in going with the flow!

  11. what a great first shot…it is by far the my favorite of the two. i can see how you would get a bit dizzy trying to shoot the raging water curving around the stone piling….great photography.

  12. Ralph says:

The top view of the waterfall is cool – the water is rushing, or trickling, depending on our vantage. Cool is an understatement!

The total falling water below shows how we can harness the liquid for electricity and such. The waterfall stonework seems to be from a long time ago – and was built to last!

  13. Terrific captures as always, Woody! Love that first one! Scary, but beautiful! Hope your weekend is going well! Enjoy!

Love the shot in black and white especially…a lot of movement in the water in contrast to the solidness of the brick…well done!

Great shot–you are right , it can make you have a “weird” feeling if you look at it long enough. Nice work. Mickie

Great shots. I can imagine the sounds you were hearing.

I like the black and white version so much better. The way you framed it gives it so much power.

  21. I prefer the B&W image (who would have thunk?). I like the movement, the tones, etc. works nicely Wayne.

10,000 images are a lot. I count by rolls of film. One of these days, I’ll make a tally of the stuff I’ve kept. Can’t count all the slides that hit the trash can.

  22. The color photo with the swirling, chocolaty water is my favorite!

    FRAGMENTS OF LIGHT

Since shadows are fragments of light,
Most gracefully they can take flight
    And soar through the air
    (They do this, I swear)
As though they were some sort of kite.
