cold shadows

I took this on the afternoon of January 27 in my back yard. I spied this icicle hanging from my neighbor’s pine tree against a background of the setting sun. We’ve had a lit of icicles this winter, here’s a shot of some hanging from my shed and I posted this just the other day.  I keep reminding myself to photograph these because in few short wees, they will but a memory.

Submitted for Shadow Shot Sunday #142

I am looking forward to the memory….for now I will settle for some sun.

  2. What a terrific capture, Woody! I love it — in spite of how cold it looks! The soft colors and reflections are awesome! Hope your weekend is going well! Enjoy! Stay warm!

Stupid icicles are at least falling off our roof in the rain. Not a fan of nuisance icicle. Yet the ambient lighting behind this ice gives it the look of a piece of jewelry, a pendant that would make a lovely necklace. Nice!

  4. That shot chills me!

    SILLY SHADOW DITTY

Shadows may or may not be
    Patterns of urbanity.
    If a shadow threatens you,
Here, my dear, is what to do:
Grab the shadow by the throat,
Toss it to a billy goat,
So the goat can chomp and chew,
    Keeping it away from you!

For those of us who’ve never seen them, they are a view of a different world. I’m surprised to see shadows inside! Just lovely, thankyou

Great color in the background to set off this icy crystal.

    really beautiful

Beautiful shadows too. I’ve been shooting ice photos this Sunday but mostly I’ve been wondering the technique of my new camera (Sony SLT A55) which works the opposite way I’d like it to work… Every new camera is a challenge!

  11. Another beauty, like a crystal jewel.

My daughter lives in Boston and said, chunks are falling and she hears a boom every now and again. :)
    Beautiful shot.

You’ve been out there with your tripod again, I see. Nice photograph!

Fantastic orange bokeh!!! The icicle actually reminds me of a long thermometer here.

  15. Jill says:

that bad boy could do some damage! I like the background too!

  16. [...] took several photos of this icicle from different angles and with different levels of zoom.  While this one emphasizes shadows, I think this one does a better job with reflections.  I hope you do [...]

I know how it feels…. these things beg to be photographed. Good focus and bokeh.
